Kate will be serving in Spain with ECM from September 2021 until June 2022.
Kate is a languages student originally from Bangor who will be serving in Roquetas de Mar, Spain, as her year abroad for her university course. Roquetas de Mar is a town that lies outside the city of Almería with a population of around 100,000, very few of whom are engaging with the gospel. Around a third of its population are immigrants, mainly from North and West Africa, with many of them coming from a Muslim background. Many will have immigrated in search of work, but they are often at risk of exploitation and trafficking and can find themselves trapped.
Kate will be part of a small church and will be involved in their ministries which seek to share the gospel with the people from these different communities. She plans to get involved with the programmes which help to teach Spanish to Moroccan women, as well as the kids clubs that exist for their children, with hopes to help develop similar programmes with other communities. Kate hopes to use her passion for languages to build relationships and serve in a richly intercultural setting with opportunities for English, French, Spanish and Arabic, which she either speaks or is learning. She shares in the current vision for a church plant that would bring people of many backgrounds together in the unity found in Christ.
She wants to see dignity and freedom for those suffering injustice, and for the people she encounters to know the ultimate freedom that comes from knowing Jesus.
